About the large change in the Codex plugin list

Published 2026-09-03 · shown on the home page until 2026-10-03

Summary
  • With the 2026-09-03 update, the number of listed Codex plugins went from 181 to 64 (127 removed, 10 added).
  • This is not a site malfunction. It reflects a cleanup that the official marketplace openai/plugins (GitHub) carried out on Aug 26–28.
  • The 127 removed plugins remain visible under "Removed" in the list, on their detail pages, and in the changelog.

Timeline

  1. The official marketplace started a cleanup: 30 plugins were added (GitHub PR #387), then the same day all "app-backed" integrations without a local MCP configuration (.mcp.json) were removed (GitHub PR #388). Four Microsoft plugins (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook Email/Calendar) were kept as exceptions.
  2. Nine widely used plugins (Adobe, Lovable, ClickUp, Data Analytics, …) were restored (GitHub PR #390).
  3. Two CrowdStrike plugins were added as references to external Git repositories (GitHub PR #391). This is a new listing format in which the plugin contents live outside openai/plugins. This site supports it and lists these two as well.
  4. Reflected on this site: 64 plugins listed (127 removed, 10 added).

How this site handles it

  • List: the 127 removed plugins are collapsed under "Removed" (the count shows the 64 active plugins)
  • Detail pages: kept, with the removal date
  • Changelog: the 2026-09 archive records every addition, removal and update
  • Categories: "Scientific Research" added
